Nurol LLC ranked 5th at Dubai Municipality’s HSE Challenge

UAE contractors ALEC, Al Naboodah Construction Group (ANCG), and Khansaheb have come out on top of Dubai Municipality’s Zero Accident Construction Challenge, which was launched in 2018 to reduce construction injuries and improve health, safety, and environment (HSE) performance on site.

Launched last September, the six-month challenge encouraged contractors to compete against one another to clock up the highest number of man-hours worked without an injury (LTI).

The construction safety challenge kicked off in October 2018 and culminated in March this year.

Laing O’Rourke Middle East, Multiplex, and Fujairah National Contracting were ranked as the second category winners, behind ALEC, ANCG, and Khansaheb.

Construction and interior design contractor Frayland, whose projects include Jumeirah Golf Estates, came third in the Zero Accident Construction Challenge.

Al Ashram Contracting was named as fourth category winner, while Roberts Constructions and Nurol came fifth. Al Madar Engineering Company and Julfar Contracting Company were in sixth place, while the seventh category winners were ADC Contracting and Ammon Contracting Company.

All of the contractors are said to have deployed technology to support safer construction, in addition to the roll-out of intensified audits and focused training on site health and safety.

Director general of Dubai Municipality, Dawoud Al Hajri, described the initiative as a “pioneering” attempt to enhance safety standards across the emirate, where thousands of construction projects are currently under way.

“We emphasise the importance of sustainability of this care by implementing construction safety requirements and working as a team to encourage contractors to take all preventive and precautionary measures to protect workers and ensure their safety,” he added.
